Baldur’s Gate 3 is the epitome of modern CRPG excellence, seamlessly combining rich storytelling, complex character development and strategic gameplay. Larian Studios’ meticulous attention to detail and commitment to honoring the legacy of the series results in a breathtaking experience that should captivate veterans and newcomers of the series.

Perhaps this review is just another essay filled with praise for a game that will probably be a contender (if not a winner) for several game of the year awards. I mean, how much can we really tell you what other people haven’t said yet? But I beg you, if you haven’t read a review, here’s our breakdown of why Baldur’s Gate 3 deserves the praise it’s received.

Immersive World Building

Building a believable world in a video game is not an easy task, but building one for a role-playing game is absolutely essential. If your dungeon master had rolled over during your Weekly/Monthly d&d group and thrown you a Vanilla world, you probably wouldn’t be staying with him.

The Forgotten Realms universe is beautifully implemented, offering a vast and visually stunning environment to explore. The world of Baldur’s Gate 3 is a masterpiece of attention to detail. The Forgotten Realms come to life through lush landscapes, complex architecture and lively settlements. Each environment is designed with an unparalleled level of Craftsmanship, offering various biomes, from misty forests to strange caves. NPCs interact in this world, providing a dynamic backdrop that responds to the choices of the players. Each place has a lot to explore, which makes exploring an exciting and knowledge-rich journey.

Compelling Narrative

Larian Studios has created a story that is both captivating and complicated. Decisions are important on several levels and affect not only character relationships, but also the overall plot. The writing is excellent, offering a branched dialogue that reflects a character’s background and choices. The dialogue options also offer skill tests, which now makes me want to revive a super charismatic bard to see how far you can go without getting your weapons dirty.

The game is not afraid of morally complex scenarios and encourages players to carefully weigh their choices. The problem with this is always that you can never really tell what the result will be. So if you especially like an NPC at a Critical Moment in decision-making, think very carefully about your next answer. But it adds to the unpredictability of the story, which keeps you engaged and invested and makes you want to eventually explore more options through several parts.

Without spoilers, the story is top notch. But sometimes it’s all about all the little stories and quests that you come across along the way in a game like Baldur’s Gate 3, each of which shines brightly. You will talk to any NPC in the hope of getting another taste of Baldur’s Gate lore or a potential side quest to distract you more.

Strategic Action

The turn-based Action system is a perfect marriage between classic D&D mechanics and modern game sensibility. If you have played the Divinity: Original Sin series by Larian, you will immediately fall into your place when the action begins. But don’t worry, other tactical RPG players will also recognize many of the mechanics. action require strategic thinking, as players must navigate the terrain, use cover and exploit elementary interactions to gain an advantage. The ability to push, shoot and interact with the environment gives it depth and creates an immersive Action experience that requires both wit and strategy.

Resource management is important, but so is understanding your Wizards’ spell locations and how they work. Mixing items and spells will help you limit the need for long breaks (which can potentially affect the progress of the quest if you take too many). Stealth action are also important when you are playing a thief or exploiting situations where sneaking benefits your action. It will certainly be up to players to review the d&d Action rules before jumping headlong into action.
